Referee Training

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Regional              

          Regionals can Referee U8 and U10 games and Assistant Referee U12 games. The minimum age to do U8 games is 10, U10 is 12, and U12 is 14.

Certification for New Referees

If you have never registered with AYSO, you must first register on eAYSO. Go to Volunteers/Register in the sidebar. You will be given an AYSO ID number. Remember this because you will use it for all online training.

Once registered, follow all of the following steps. Until you have finished all of them, we will not be able to certify you or assign you to any games.

1.   Take the online Safe Haven Course at AYSO On Line Training [Log in using the ID# you just received]

*  Click on "Courses” to get to the TRAINING COURSES page 
*  Click on SAFE HAVEN - Course MT02
*  When you pass the test, you can print out a certificate. eAYSO will automatically register you as Safe Haven Certified. You do not have to take this course again.

2.   Take the Basic Online Training Course listed on the TRAINING COURSES page

3.   Click on REFEREE - Course R002. When you pass the test, you can print out a certificate. eAYSO will automatically register that you have passed the Basic Online Training Course. You do not have to take this course again.

4.    Take the Basic Companion Course

*  This is an all day,  in-person course given at Portola Valley Town Center. Course dates TBA [You can also take it at any other location giving it.]
*  Pass the Regional Referee Exam given at the end of the course.
   
                                                                                            

WELCOME TO THE TEAM 

  

Intermediate

Intermediate Referees can Referee U12 games and Assistant Referee U14  games. The minimum age to referee U12 games is 14.

Certification requires all of the following steps

1. Be a certified Regional Referee

2. Referee or Assistant Referee 25 full games with at least five of them as Referee at the U12 level.

3. Take the Intermediate Referee Course
  • This is an all day,  in-person course given at Portola Valley Town Center. Course dates TBA [You can also take it at any other location giving it.]
  • Pass the Intermediate Referee Exam
4.  Be observed/mentored as Referee for at least one U12 game

 We give this training in our Region or you can take it in other regions.

Advanced and National

The requirements for certification at these levels are considerably more challenging. They require several years of training and game experience. Certification for them takes place only at certain times and places.


RETURNING REFEREES 

You must register on eAYSO each year. 

 Log in to eAYSO. Click on the appropriate "Apply"line. If it is closed, click on "Update volunteer information.
