Coach Training

AYSO Provides Excellent Coach Training
All coaches must be trained. We go to great lengths to provide many training opportunities. We want your kids to have a top quality AYSO soccer experience and this is only possible if you are trained.

All Coaches Need to Be:
  1. Registered for the current AYSO year
  2. Have completed the AYSO Safe Haven
  3. Have completed the AYSO division level soccer training that matches the division they are coaching
Here is how to get the training you need:
  • Safe Haven
    • The AYSO Safe Haven course helps to ensure the safety of BOTH the volunteers and the children. This course is mandatory for all coaches and will protect you legally and financially.
    • To take the course
      1. Get your AYSO ID # from eAYSO (see Volunteers to apply as a volunteer)
      2. Sign in to AYSO Online Training (sign in using your AYSO ID # and last name)
      3. Click on "Courses" and select the "Course MT02 - AYSO's Safe Haven (60-70 minute course)"
      4. Follow the onscreen instructions
    • All coaches must take this course, no excuses accepted. the course is available online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Division level training (U6, U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, U19)
    • These courses teach you how to teach soccer for the respective age group.
    • AYSO requires that all coaches be trained at the appropriate level of the team they are coaching. See the AYSO Coaching Policy FAQ for details.
    • We greatly prefer that you take Division/Age Level Coach Training in person so you can get the benefits of field training, ask questions, and meet your fellow coaches.
    • In-person courses are typically only offered from 2 to 10 weeks prior to the first game. After 2 weeks prior to the first game, online training is typically your only option.
    • Sign up for an in-person course:
      • Log in to eAYSO
      • From the "My eAYSO" dropdown menu choose "Course Signup"
      • Search for the course you want by indicating your search criteria
        • Our region is in section 2, Area 'A'
        • Recommend setting as few search criteria as possible to get best results
        • Typically just setting Section = 2 is sufficient to show what's available in our area
      • Set the radio button next to the desired course then click the "Course Signup" button to continue
      • Set the radio button next to your name and press "Add attendee to program roster" to complete sign up
    • As a last resort U6, U8, and U10 training can be taken online. The online courses are condensed and skip some classroom portions as well as the field training. The online courses are also a good refresher for coaches who have previously taken in-person training.
    • To take an online training course:
      • Log in to AYSO Online Training with your AYSO ID # and last name
      • Click on "Courses" in the navigation bar
      • Select the course you would like to take
      • Follow the instructions and complete the course all the way to the end where it will create a training completion certificate for you
      • Save the training completion certificate for future reference (your course completion is automatically recorded in eAYSO).
  • To get electronic copies of AYSO manuals:
    • Log in to AYSO Online Training with your AYSO ID # and last name
